On the president's Salary Donation

Math Is Fun*
*but NFIL (not for intellectually lazy)

Make 3 piles of pancakes:
Pile A:  100 pancakes
Pile B:  Take 1 pancake, cut it into 20 equal pieces and pull out 3 of those tiny pieces. (See Picture)  For a 6” pancake, this would be slightly larger than a saltine cracker.
Pile C:  Pile up 2899 pancakes.  If they’re 6” regular pancakes, like a frozen pancake,that would be more than 450 POUNDS of pancakes.

EXPLANATION:
Pile A is the amount of money we have spent extra for this president in just 3 months; a combination of the costs of a first lady won’t live with her husband and a president who takes MULTIPLE, extravagant golfing trips.

Pile B, the 3/20 of a single pancake, represents the donation of salary the president just made to the National Park Service.  Of course, he made this after he was paid it, instead of opting to just divert the pay to the NPS.  This will cost the US Government more in the long run as he will claim it on his taxes as a donation.

Pile C, the 2899 pancakes is the amount that the president has cut the budget of the Interior Service, which oversees the NPS.

If you’re still not getting it, let’s take these numbers in miles:
  • 100 miles (528,000 feet) extra in first lady/golf trips;
  • 0.15 miles (792 feet) in donation; and
  • 2899 miles (across the US from Maine to Los Angeles – 15,306,720 feet) in budget cuts.

One last comparison, in just plain money, if the first lady/golfing cost us just $100, then he donated 15¢ to NPS, and cut Interior by $2,899.

His donation is a slap in the face.

Syria

Gotta admire Jon Stewart.  He gets my highest respect for being consistent, and wicked funny.

So... in other news... anti-war activist and celebrity Ed Asner says that Hollywood celebrities like Sheryl Crow, George Clooney, etc., are not speaking out about Syria because they're afraid of being called racist.

{Isn't NOT doing something because of a person's race also racist?}

I get it though.  They screamed it from the rooftops that if anyone criticized President Obama then that person "must be" a racist.  And, after major news media outlets ran the story originally reported by journalistic giant, "The National Enquirer," about a now-dismissed lawsuit about Paula Deen and all the firestorm from that... well, who could blame them.  Being called a racist today is like being called a communist in the 50's:  who cares if it's true or not?

Even if they did speak out though, major media probably wouldn't pay attention.  I've already posted how Cindy Sheehan (mom who camped out in front of President Bush's ranch to oppose the Iraq War) has been speaking out -- yet you can't find any of her comments in the news, just on her own blog.

The media wants a war.  Hmmm.... wonder why that could be.  Oh, right.  War means reporting.  Reporting means advertising.  Advertising means money.  Hurst re-incarnated.

Hallelujah

Watching a morning news show.  They're doing a segment on the song, "Hallelujah."  The melody sounds vaguely familiar, but I know I've never heard the lyrics.  I've never heard of anyone else in this story, Leonard Cohen, Jeff Buckley... So sad that people sing this song wanting something deeper and would never look to the True Source to fulfill that basic human need.  What a counterfeit!

Immigration 2013

My letter this morning to Senator Nelson:

Thank you for helping immigrants!!!  Although I am a registered Republican, I believe that the GOP stance on this issue is just hypocritical and hateful.

I just have one request:  Please include the plight of women in the immigration reform! Many women come here, marry US citizens, bear children (thus the children are US citizens) and then endure servitude and horrible abuse at the hands of their husbands. Meanwhile, the husband lets the wife’s immigration status lapse.  She has no money, is abused and, if she calls the police, they will do nothing but deport her away from her children. I don't know about other states, but in Florida, this is a very prevalent practice!!!

Perhaps, just allowing police to look closely at a situation before separating a mother from her children and empowering them to do what is right would do so much in fixing this situation.
